The Aristarchus project has developed a new accessible version of the site in order to make the tools provided more user-friendly, even for people with disabilities.

Web accessibility entails the possibility of benefiting from available contents and services regardless of mental or physical disabilities and limited hardware and software supply.

For this purpose, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines WCAG 1.0, of the WAI – W3C project, have been followed, in an attempt to achieve a Triple-A conformance level (WCAG 1.0 AAA).

Layout and characters
The layout has been recreated and adapted to the accessibility requirements by using the markup language XHTML 1.0 strict for page structure and style sheets CSS 2.0 for graphics. No table has been used to page up and all elements have been produced through the most suitable XHTML tag.
The size of characters and sections are percentage or relative unit of measure, so that it is possible to increase them (through the browser tools) according to the user’s needs. The distance between elements has been emphasized, in order to guarantee their separation, and the use of very small characters has been avoided, as far as possible.
Colors
The choice of colors is in keeping with the WCAG 1.0 standard about foreground and background color combination: when pages are viewed by someone having color deficits, or on a black and white screen, sufficient contrast must be provided. For this purpose it is necessary that the difference in brightness and shade between foreground and background color exceed a given threshold value. W3C suggests an algorithm (subject to possible variations) to calculate this value: applying the algorithm to all the color combinations chosen for the site ensures that the threshold value will always be exceeded.
In any case, all information on the site is also accessible without color.
Keyboard shortcuts
Keyboard shortcuts are provided for certain links, specifically those connecting the most important sections of the site. Letters are given in square brackets ([A, B, C...]) just after the link to which they refer. They are useful to activate the link directly or to type in the data. To use these tools, follow the instructions below:
